Bold Win at Ipswich
Mar 05, 2016
Adam O'Neill was rapt to see a plan come to fruition with his four-year-old grey, Bold Approach, winning the Blush Maiden Handicap over 1100m at Ipswich on Friday.
The gelded son of New Approach started twice in Victoria under the care of O'Neill before he sent his charge north chasing wet tracks after coming back from an injury.
Bold Approach was dominant in winning and showed what O'Neill and the team knew he was capable of and showing not only at home but in his earlier in his career before his injury.
“The horse is a wet-tracker and coming off an injury layoff we didn’t want to risk him on hard tracks,” said O’Neill.
“We knew he was very capable and that’s what we were waiting for him to do.
“He’s well above maiden class and I think he was only about 85-percent right so there’s plenty of improvement to come.”
“He’ll stay up there but if the rain comes (in Victoria) we’ll bring him back for the winter.
It was a satisfying win for O'Neill as his stable has been quiet lately due to a virus going through the stable which is now looking as though it has moved on and the stable will be back up and firing in no time.
Bold Approach was purchased for $30,000 as a yearling and is by Darley's former shuttler, New Approach, out of the Night Shift mare, Footloose.
"We have the horses up there Queensland under the care of my father Ian.
"It is just another avenue we can provide our owners if horses may need a change of scenery or a change of environment, and so far it has been working."
O'Neill also has Sky Brook stabled in the Sunshine State and is looking to run her at Doomben next Wednesday.
