O'Neill Quartet Near Return
May 16, 2017
Bendigo based Adam O'Neill went to the Tatura trials on Monday with some heavy ammunition and headed home fairly pleased with the way his horse's performed.
Highly talented Bold Approach ran the fasted heat of the day when winning trial 13 over 1000m. Cory Parish rode the son of New Approach and noted that "he was feeling the pinch at the end."
O'Neill added "we expected this as it was his first serious hit out and he is a horse that is always a bit heavier coming into a preparation."
"He will take plenty of benefit from the trial and its off to the races now for him."
Stable stalwart Fulcrum showed he has a bit left in the tank with a very handy second in trial 10 also over 1000m. Fulcrum has been back on the scene this year with two runs after a lengthy lay off and looks to be heading back towards his best with a sharp trial.
Zoot Suit Riot ran third in his heat and came home nicely in what is his trademark finish and should be nearing a return to the races in early June.
"It was a perfect hit out for him and Cory said he felt great, he had a bit of a blow, and is ready to resume. He has pulled up well and is ready to go," O'Neill said.
Desert Samurai who is on the comeback trail was also an eye catcher running midfield over a sprinting trip.
"Desert Samurai was able to settle back and he rolled into the trial to finish off well," said ONeill.
"It was only 1000m so he was beaten by the speedier horses, but he ran a solid trial and got a good hit out. I'm thinking he will have another trial before heading to the races just so we can resume him over a mile or 1400m straight away instead of a race over 1200m."
In other pleasing news for the O'Neilll Racing team smart mare Amaretto has been back in work and will be looking to make a return to the races in the coming months.
